Intro to Dyeing Workshop
We have all fallen in love with the beautiful hand dyed yarns available. From
solids to tonals, variegated and speckled, the possibilities are endless.
Now, you can learn to make your own! Be your own fibre Diva
Create one of a kind skeins and let your imagination be your limit.
Learn the basic principles of dyeing in this introductory workshop. We'll
discuss tools and equipment, as well as dye studio health and safety. We'll put
theory into practice and each student will have a chance to try their hand at
dyeing 2 skeins of superwash merino yarn.
This workshop is a prerequisite for all other regular dye classes and meets the
orientation requirements for non-professional Dye Studio use/membership.
Classes are held in person at our yarn shop.
No previous experience is required.
Workshop includes dye, all mixing and safety materials and 200g of yarn.
Class will run with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 students.
Additional skeins are available for purchase in advance or during class.
If you have pre-dyed yarn in your stash that you don't love, bring it along and
we will help you overdye it!
**Please note that our dyes only work on animal/protein fibers**

Dyers supply their own Yarn, fiber, dyes and fabrics.
Indie dye businesses can utilize wholesale ordering privileges where
applicable.
Prerequisite for studio rental: Studio orientation and Intro to dyeing is
required for non-professional Dye Studio use/membership.
Dye Studio Membership Subscriptions
Tired of setting up your kitchen/bathroom/garage to dye??
We offer dye studio membership subscription with increased access for dyers
who want to work on dyeing projects without investing in all their own tools
and equipment.
Indie dyers, hobby dyers, and dye students can utilize our equipment and
tools in the Diva dye studio to create their own hand dyed yarns, spinning
fibers, and fabrics.
HOW IT WORKS:
❖ Membership requires a minimum 3 month commitment.
❖ MONTHLY RATE: $225
❖ A monthly membership gives you access anytime the dye studio is
open as well as after hours access on a predetermined schedule.
❖ After hours availability for members is prioritized for in-house dyers.
❖ Members bring their own dyes, yarns, fibers and fabrics
❖ Dyed yarns must be taken home after drying and twisting. In house
dyers have the option of wall space to sell their dyed items. If needed
you can rent storage from us.
❖ Dyer schedules will be coordinated with each individual dyer schedule
to be fair and equitable to everyone.
❖ Members time will be given priority over day access dye time
❖ There is no structured instruction time while you're working, so
previous experience is necessary.
Day Rate Studio Rate
Don’t want to commit to or need a membership?
❖ Dye studio rental is available for half (3 hr) or full day (6 hr) sessions for
access anytime the dye studio is open pending availability from
members or class usage.
❖ RATES: Half day $55 Full day $110
❖ Open hours will be Tuesday through Sunday during business hours.
❖ Dyers to bring their own yarns, dyes, fibers and fabrics.
❖ Dry projects must be taken home with you once completed. If needed,
we can discuss storage options from us.
❖ We ask that everyone reserves their visit in advance so that we don’t get
too crowded.
❖ There is no structured instruction time while you're working, so
previous experience is necessary.

- 6 double burners for heating dye baths stock pots buckets
- 2 compartment sink (large capacity)
- Plastic sink pans - Gloves, apron, dust mask
- Chafing trays - Measuring utensils
- Slow cooker - Squeeze bottles
- Microwave - Scales for weighing fiber and dyestuffs
- Electric kettle - Spoons, whisks, tongs,
- Mason jars - Yarn winder & swift
- Syringes - Portable washer with spin dry
- Drying rack
** If we are missing anything you need, just let us know and we will bring the
additional equipment/supplies in for you!
For Safety, everyone must
➢ Wear closed toe shoes,
➢ Wear gloves when handling dyes, mordants, or auxiliary
chemicals
➢ Wear a respirator or dust mask when handling dye powders
➢ Use hot pads or heat-proof mitts while handling hot pans
We recommend
➢ Bringing your own respirator or dust mask
➢ Wear an apron or lab coat
➢ No hand or wrist jewelry (rings, bracelets, etc)
➢ Long hair tied back

We’re going to manage what materials are allowed to be used in the space in
order to keep the studio safe and avoid cross-contamination. Contact us
directly for any other materials that you want to bring in that aren’t on this list
and we can verify if they’ll be approved or not.
