CloseThis nostepinne (which can also be used as a cocktail muddler) was turned on a lathe using high-speed steel (HSS) chisels. The handle is designed to fit comfortably in the palm. There is a slight tapering to the end, which levels off to assist in keeping the yarn on the nostepinne while winding. The handle has a diameter of approximately 2.1cm, and the tip of the nostepinne is approximately 1.5 cm. Lines have been burned into the handle.
After the use of HSS chisels, a light sanding was done, and the spindle was buffed with coconut oil, walnut oil, and beeswax, which avoids synthetic materials and provides a VOC Free, food-safe level finishing. Coconut oil provides a nice finish to the wood to bring out the grain, and beeswax gently seals the wood. Regular use of the nostepinne with wool will help keep the finish, as the lanolin from wool will add to the patina. If you do find that the nostepinne is becoming dry, feel free to lightly buff with an oil of your choice.
Each nostepinne is individually made, and is one-of-a-kind.
